Mark Twain said, “It’s not the size of the dog in the fight, it’s the size of the fight in the dog.”

I was hit by the truth of this statement, one day, literally while playing youth football.

I was running the ball, and a smaller – much smaller – linebacker had me in his sights. I charged full steam ahead and was promptly laid out.

That’s when I first heard (and felt) Mark Twain’s words. A coach used them to describe the effectiveness of that little linebacker. They have stuck in my head ever since.

Due to this experience, I have always rooted for the underdog in a fight. I’m not entirely sure why. Maybe I want to see the unlikely hero take a swing at the title. Maybe I just enjoy the pressure that comes with having my back up against the wall.

This “small but mighty” underdog mentality sparked a fascination in me. It’s now something I seek out…something that has influenced every work decision I’ve made. It encourages me to work for companies run by the most driven individuals I’ve ever met over large companies who place profits over passion.

It’s what excited me about AMEND.

AMEND houses the two most important factors of the underdog mentality: Passion and Opportunity.

I have heard this passion from one of our Managing Partners, Craig Todd. He was telling me about a new company he wanted to learn more about. The research, the meticulousness of his approach getting to know the owners of this company, and the energy that came from his voice was so inspiring, chills raced down my spine.

The small size of AMEND is was initially attracted me. I jumped at the chance to make a significant impact during my internship as opposed to being the summer copy boy for some big name company.

I can tell you with confidence AMEND did not disappoint.

My friends working for other consulting firms are dumbfounded when I tell them I have been given the tools and resources to be able to balance three projects at one time. They’ve told me they’re considered all stars at their jobs if they are involved in more than one project.

I’m in a place where I’m constantly challenged, which means I’m constantly growing. I am inspired every day by my passionate team members. I’m proud to say I’m strongly connected and valued inside a talented team. We tackle each day with the drive of working with the underdog mentality, and together, we are doing mighty things.
